Task: Choose a film from one genre and explain, in detail, how you would change it to a different genre.

For this task, I chose Harry Potter and the goblet of fire from the fantasy genre to turn into a comedy.

Locations:

The first location I would change in this film is the black lake. There are horrifying creatures in there, and the water is incredibly dark, hence it being called the black lake. One of the conventions of comedy is happiness and light, so you could change the colour of the water in the black lake to a clear blue (which would include more comedy because the water is a bright blue but it's still called the black lake), and still have some creatures but things such as innocent looking water snakes, or a funny-looking three eyed fish.

The second location i would change is the library as in the film it's again incredibly dark. It is set at night, however I would change the time of day to daytime and then have the characters enter the library and bring some books outside to sit by the lake and study, where potentially a creature from the Lake could jump up and bite one of them.

Characters:

In terms of characters I don't think there's much to change as there are already lots of funny characters. The only character who i would change is Dumbledore who has a very serious look and is a serious character. I also think you could dial up the comedy in some of the other characters such as Ron and Neville.

Narrative:

In terms of dialogue, i think the conversations between Harry and Draco could be a little funnier when they argue. Also, there's a moment on a bridge between Harry and Cedric which is quite serious, and it could be funnier by Cedric dragging out his lines a bit more to make it seem almost romantic.

Costume:

Snape has a very plain outfit of just black the whole film, and it might add comedy to sometimes have him in different colours, for example for the Yule Ball, he could be made, by Dumbledore, to wear some different colours and to dance with Professor McGonagall. Dumbledore also wears very plain robes and could wear some different colours when he goes away on his different trips. Also, Dumbledore's hair is already quite crazy and a little funny but it would be funnier if all the characters had a bad hair day at some point.
